Where are our classes held?
Abbey classes are held on the second floor of the historic main building.
Do my Abbey classes all transfer back to my home school? Is this a good program to go on for me if I am not from Southern Miss or one of the other main Abbey schools?
All Abbey classes carry 3 credits each and transfer out of USM to any university or college in the USA.
Are Abbey classes harder than normal classes back home?
Abbey classes are intense and require a great deal of academic work from students every day. Yet the ratio of students to professors—about 8-1—allows for a high degree of academic interplay among learners and with their faculty. Most Abbey students report both that they worked harder in France on the program than ever before in their lives and also that they got the best grades of their lives.
What is the ParisWEEK of The Abbey Program and how does it differ from the other weeks of the program?
ParisWEEK is the 6th week of The Abbey Program each semester, and it is always one of the most cherished periods of the term. You will arrive in Paris on a Saturday or Sunday, sometimes by train and sometimes by coach. (The transport is included in your program fee, but how we get to Paris varies.) During the following 6 days you will meet the city up and down, inside and outside. Everyone goes to Versailles and to the Louvre, but otherwise ParisWEEK is based around the 5 hour walk-talks our professors host on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. You will sign up for the walk-talks of your choice the week prior to Paris, selecting the events that interest you the most. Each walk-talk is limited to 7-8 students, in order to insure that our mantra can be realized: no traditional classrooms for a week! No dull classes ever. All learning is active, and our classes hit the streets, the museums, the cafes and the gardens of the city to keep energy and interest higher than you’ve ever experienced before as a student.
